Miscellaneous infographics produced for ESO’s press releases/conferences.
1. Size comparisons of monuments from ESO’s 16 member states and contributing countries, using famous landmarks. These infographics were produced for the press conference announcing the signing of the contracts to build the E-ELT, the largest ground-based telescope to date.
2. An infographic detailing the scattering of Lyman-alpha photons within Lyman-alpha Blob 1 (LAB-1), a giant cosmic cloud of gas located at the southern constellation of Aquarius.
3. An infographic showing the breakdown of ALMA Cycle 4 accepted proposals by science category, in celebrating of ALMA receiving a record number of requests within the international astronomy community.
4. Two infographics for the science release and press conference revealing that the Pale Red Dot has located a planet, Proxima b, around the star Proxima within the Centauri star system – the closest star to Earth. The first infographic compares the angular size of the star Proxima to the Sun (the size of Proxima Centauri in the sky of Proxima b in comparison to the size of the Sun seen from Earth), whereas the second one compares the actual size of Proxima with other stars and Jupiter.
